Deal Spotlights

Intersect Power

Who they are

A developer of large utility-scale renewable energy with a current focus on solar and battery-storage projects, which directly facilitates significant renewable energy generation and storage, offsetting traditional fossil fuel energy sources.

Why it matters

This transaction accelerates the deployment of clean energy and data center capacity to support AI‑driven power demand, while underscoring the essential role real assets play in advancing the energy transition and their ability to deliver competitive, equity‑like returns.

The HL advantage

Hamilton Lane’s strategic relationship with the sponsors allowed for unique access to a strong impact deal with attractive pricing dynamics.

The bottom line:

In January 2026, Intersect announced a $5.25B agreement to sell its data‑center‑linked development platform to Google, returning 170% of invested capital while retaining ownership and operation of its core solar and storage assets to support continued long‑term value creation. This return reflects the value created since Hamilton Lane’s original investment in 2023.

Project Silver

Who they are

Project Silver develops and manufactures industry-leading reverse osmosis membranes that help transform seawater and wastewater into clean, affordable freshwater

Why it matters

Project Silver’s advanced reverse osmosis membranes have rapidly replaced traditional, energy-intensive thermal desalination methods, cutting energy usage by up to 84% and reducing carbon emissions by 75%, making sustainable, large-scale freshwater production both more economically competitive and environmentally essential.

The HL advantage

We gained access to the opportunity through its new primary relationship with the established sponsor and received meaningful allocation despite the highly oversubscribed dynamics. The sponsor acquired the company in a proprietary carve out from a large strategic.

The bottom line

Project Silver is a dominant player in a large and growing reverse osmosis membrane market with powerful secular tailwinds, underpinned by mission-critical desalination demand and a highly recurring revenue base. As a standalone backed by an experienced sponsor, Project Silver is positioned to accelerate growth and capture an outsized share of the market.

Safe Life

Who they are

A leading global distributor of automated external defibrillators (AED) for out-of-hospital settings and a provider of training and maintenance services, which increases public access and readiness to respond to cardiac emergencies.

Why it matters

Safe Life expands public access to life-saving AEDs and training, addressing this urgent public health challenge in a rapidly growing, underpenetrated global market.

The HL advantage

Given our pre-existing relationship with the sponsor and our impact alignment, we were approached with the opportunity and the largest co-investment allocation available.

The bottom line

As the dominant market player, the company is well-positioned to capture additional market share and expand internationally, while increasing public access and readiness to respond to cardiac emergencies.

Weekly Research Briefing: Ups and Downs

While the week's and weekend's news flow continued at full throttle, some financial markets have begun to take notice. Some of the more intriguing moves as the S&P 500 volatility index jumped above 20 twice in the last week include a 20% retreat in Gold, a 40% pullback in Silver and a now 40% drawdown in Bitcoin from its highs. The entire energy complex has also threw up some epic U-turns led by the $3 to $5.50 to $3 move in natural gas as US and European weather systems cause panic.
