We provide clients with comprehensive, customized, quarterly and annual reports. Our on-line, interactive Portfolio Reporting System affords clients 24-hour, secure Internet-based access to their portfolios. Clients can download timely information on cash flows, adjusted valuations, adjusted capital account schedules, underlying portfolio company information and other data provided by our general partners or developed internally by our in-house reporting team.
Proprietary Fund Rating System
In an effort to provide clients with an objective method of comparing private equity funds, Hamilton Lane has developed a proprietary Fund Rating System. The Fund Rating System is a robust benchmarking and performance measurement tool that can be applied to a single private equity partnership investment or a portfolio of funds. For any given partnership investment, we measure performance relative to the market and to its peer group in the same sub-asset class and vintage year. Moreover, each investment is rated on a periodic basis to ensure constant and continual performance assessment.
Benchmarking Performance
At Hamilton Lane, we guide our clients through a complete analysis of benchmarking to help them better understand the benefits and trade-offs from employing a variety of possible absolute and relative return approaches. This provides the basis for constructing customized benchmarks for our clients. Our goal in creating tailored benchmarks is to provide a solution that captures the goals and objectives of a client’s private equity program, while presenting a profile that has relevance to the underlying assets. To allow for a valid comparison with other asset classes, we calculate the time-weighted rate of return of the portfolios and their corresponding benchmarks. Information sources for tailored benchmarks include the Hamilton Lane proprietary database, which is supplemented by industry-available indices.
