Responsible Investing

Hamilton Lane is a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (“PRI”).

The aim of the PRI is to assist investors in integrating consideration of environmental, social and corporate governance (“ESG”) issues into investment decision-making and ownership practices.

Hamilton Lane acknowledges that ESG issues can affect the performance of investment portfolios. We recognize that investing can be both financially and socially profitable; therefore, we incorporate ESG issues into our investment process. This includes direct discussions with fund managers regarding their investment practices, appropriate legal documentation and/or side letters to permit exclusion or liquidity if necessary, and regular, active portfolio monitoring.

The UK Stewardship Code

Hamilton Lane fully supports the principles and standards of good practice set out in the UK Stewardship Code ("the Code") and the Code's aim to enhance the quality of engagement between institutional investors and investee companies to help improve long-term returns to shareholders by setting out good practice on engagement with investee companies to which the Financial Reporting Council ("FRC") believes institutional investors should aspire. Hamilton Lane is a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment ("PRI"), the aim of which is to assist investors in integrating consideration of environmental, social and corporate governance ("ESG") issues into investment decision-making and ownership practices.

Hamilton Lane is a global investment manager that manages capital exclusively in the private equity asset class through investment in funds, funds of funds, secondary funds and co-investment funds. It also provides tailored advice on customized private equity strategies for a number of global clients. While Hamilton Lane fully endorses the principles underlying the Code, as a private equity firm it is not required by the FRC and the Financial Services Authority to set out its commitment to the seven principles of the Code; this reflects the fact that a close and direct relationship with the management of private companies is intrinsic to private equity investment."
